Young People Step On Board HMS Forth for an Unforgettable Maritime Experience

At Tees Maritime, we’re passionate about connecting young people with opportunities that inspire them to explore careers they may never have considered. This week, alongside the Stockton-on-Tees Employment and Training Hub, we had the pleasure of taking a group of young people on board HMS Forth while she was docked on Teesside.

For everyone attending, it was their first time stepping on board a Royal Navy vessel, making it a truly memorable experience from the moment they arrived.

The visit offered a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at life in the Royal Navy, with the crew generously sharing their experiences and explaining the many roles involved in keeping a ship operational. From engineering and logistics to navigation, communications and health and safety, the visit highlighted just how diverse careers within the maritime industry can be.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was seeing the young people fully immerse themselves in the experience. They asked thoughtful questions, showed genuine curiosity and even had the opportunity to try on firefighting suits worn by the crew.

The visit also showcased the incredible expertise we have here on Teesside. Our region is home to a thriving maritime community, and opportunities like this are only possible because of the strong partnerships between industry, education and organisations committed to inspiring the next generation.

At Tees Maritime, we believe that seeing careers first-hand is one of the most powerful ways to inspire future talent. Experiences like this bring the maritime industry to life, helping young people discover opportunities they may never have imagined while showcasing the innovation, collaboration and expertise that make our region such a great place to build a career.

We look forward to creating many more opportunities like this for young people across the Tees Valley.
